ATI Radeon 9700 Pro - Heating Up & Crashing

I hve XP and I had the latest drivers (which 1.4 was installed too). azuremagi09-06-2003, 02:05 PMI have a slightly different system and the PNY 5600 but I am running into the same exact problem. I have for the longest time been watching this board hoping an answer would be posted, but no, it never did. as I'm reading this topic, i think you're all having trouble with how to setup your mobo-bios. have a peek here

That way I have a current boot record and list of any problems that may show up. Then re introduce each setting one at a time. The game will start up fine after that for another random amount of time before it just crashes to desktop. Choose the one that mentions Open GL version 1.3(1?) and it should fix a lot of the problems. http://www.techspot.com/community/topics/ati-radeon-9700-pro-heating-up-crashing.26521/

If you're wondering my system is: Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2000Mhz (stock speed) Gigabyte K8N Pro (Nforce 3 - 150) Radeon 9700 (Not O/C'd) SoundBlaster Audigy 2 2x512 Mushkin (@CAS 2.5) Each problem is specific... And I am sure the time frame of crashing will depend on ambient temps.

Couple hours ago i wrote, that everything is just all right... When I gwet home from work tonight I reply to this fourm again with the Bios settings you need to have for the 7VRXP board to make it run stable. I read messages and haven't seen a FIX, but willing to try just about anything, I am about to try format HDD, but giving NG a chance first cause everything else I mainly get jump to desktop when other machines on my lan are also playing on the same server.

In theory, it allows the CPU to bypass the system memory and send data straight to the graphics chip, eliminating a bottleneck at the memory bus.

Since i put it together i've been getting random crashes, bluescreens and lockups - especially in dark age of camelot (currently the only 3d game on the system). I didn't even have to reboot !! ;-) thx a bunch Orcinus for the tip :-)))) 12-13-2003, 04:03 AMoops, I meant thx simonator ... 12-14-2003, 01:00 PMJust to add to this And I don't think this is happening due to some lack of ventilation in the casing. I also installed OCZ copper ram sinks on all my video card's ram. Check This Out The current heat sink on the card seems to be a standard ATI one, not the circular heatsink in most of the Sapphire pics.

Reboot the system when attempting to game.

I've replaced it with a nice fan and haven't had *too* many problems up until I bought Thief.

if you have that turned off in the bio's then no. Try that first before mucking up settings or drivers.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Bryan Cassidy Mar 15, 2004, 02:36pm EST Reply - Quote - Report Abuse Private Message - Add to Buddy List DAoC runs fine though :\ My good ol' geforce2 gts might come out of the box (again!). 12-06-2003, 01:46 PMOriginally posted by brew: Hi there, I have recently bought a system Thanks.

I disabled the support for enhanced CPU instruction sets in display properties and the games no longer crashed, but then I had no real OPENGL lighting did I?? The exact same thing happened to me and this solved it. I disabled 8x to 4x and it seems to have stopped the problem, however I payed for an 8x card and would like to use it at that speed. this contact form I tried doing what BREW did (...disabled the support for enhanced CPU instruction sets in display properties...).
