When the system reboted, I got the same disk read error I originally got when I first got the notebook. I'm afraid I have limited computer technology as this is my first laptop (excluding the first one I broke within 2 days!) and I can't make my description much more detailed. Compaq presario A900 freezing? news just sharing what I have tried in the hope it saves some issues for others. I haven't seen any broken solders, and I haven't tried swapping the processor yet, because I found an inexpensive charger board that I'm currently awaiting the arrival of (got it off I then went to the device manager to see if there were any updates on my laptop hardware such as sound/audio drivers and various others.
The first thing I did was take out the BIOS battery, now it shows the splash of Compaq but still freezes. after it is booted it can be restarted from within windows. At that point I was down to my last option which was going to the Hewlett Packard website to scan my laptop for missing updates/drivers which could be causing my laptop
The computer was purchased about a year and a half ago. When I got back from Rhode Island I opened up the laptop's RAM slot, took out the memory, re-seated the memory, and started up my laptop. It does not even get to the COMPAQ boot screen. If the computer is not plugged in, no battery, no bios battery, and sitts for about 4 hours (occasionally less if I futz with it).

If the freezing continues right away so you can't pinpoint the cause then go over your install closely using Troubleshooting Steps for Windows 7. But my observation is that if my wrist is on the front right hand wrist rest area the screen gets blue lines on it. And lastly I have gone through many of the troubleshooting steps for windows 7 and still my laptop is unresponsive. I Hope we will solve this problem soon.
Can you run a Linux Live CD to see if the freezing happens then too. I just formatted the drive to install Win XP Pro (it was running WinMe). I suspect the hard drive. Thank you for all the coments on this.
