IBM ThinkPad G40 2388 Notebook My Compaq died.... instead of giving 18.5 volt that the laptop required it was giving only 14 volts. The Compaq/HP CQ, or G 60/70 series is known for shorting out one day and not working ever again. The laptop can play CDs and DVDs, so most likely there is nothing wrong with the optical drive or the motherboard controller. internet

Herb Krakau April 18, 2007 | My daughter's HP Pavilion zt1290 had a failed solder joint where one of the pins of the ac adapter connector goes into the motherboard. I want to take apart the keyboard and check that specific key. From your description I would say that you’ll have to replace the screen. check my blog what happens is over time, the little plastic piece that covers the voltage converter slides over.
Faulty ram can lead to harddisk troubles, read/write errors, but I don't think it will kill a disk. When I try to turn it on, all the blue lights come on but nothing happens--screen is black. It's possible one of the memory slots is bad. and i can always just get a monitor for it anyway if external works.
Maybe one memory slot on the motherboard is defective. Do you know that you can buy a new keyboard for Pavilion ZE5400 series for about $30 here? I would rather expect bad memory to be cause of your posting/booting troubles, since your screen stays black, than the harddisk, which is not involved in the posting. if anyone has any further suggestions on this issue…I'll still try the Toshiba utility; thanks alot for adding it to the Resources page.

it's not reading any incoming power. I've tried locating a loose connection to the screen by disassembling my laptop. Result: Fan starts up for 5 seconds or so, and turns off. all you have to do is take apart the monitor and slide the piece back over and its fixed.
While I need to read my USB (Saver 512 Mbyte), I have to restart the Laptop every time. The Fan turns on for about 3 seconds but then it goes off and the power light blinks and the monitor won't turn on. I have to restart to start it working again. Join the community here.
