I'd recommend contacting the card maker to see if it's still under warranty, some will even discount the price on a new one if it's out of warranty. Only a manual power off to restart.

I go nVidia all the way, I love AMD CPUs but not their video cards since they've given me many problems. There doesn't seem to be any performance issues associated with this little thing, it's just an observation I've made during this thing. Most of the problems I had, had to do with when the computer went into "Sleep mode" or started running the screen saver. I had the same problems with Vista and Win7 on my desk-top PC's. Finally, I would go to the advanced power settings and individually modify the power hibernation settings and individually disable hibernation for the different devices.
