When crunching under full load cores 0 and 1 have temperatures around 60-62C but cores 2 and 3 run about 10 degrees cooler, around 50 -52C. Now is > Max for 50% of time. Those are the "melt down" temps you should be fine as long as you stay under 60 long term. Increment is higher if CPUs are more than 2 (Max is on two 8 cores i7 that I have). I suggest the cooler above because it works well and it can be found for a good price. But running a cpu hot for an extended amount of time is like letting a car run HOT for a long time. So it's just a question of good system design to keep your system inside the tolerable temperatures. SteveWarning, addicted to SETI crunching!
