It is an XPS710 and doing some research, I do think it is the mobo. There are many companies out there that offer good pre-built machines for prices better than Dell/Alienware. I guess the GPU (which I bought last year) can be kept, though it isn't great, ATI Radeon HD 5750. It happened to me, I was still under warranty and got a replacement (Dell replaced it with an Alienware Area-51 desktop), but if you are not under warranty the news is No improvement.Checked monitor - works with another computer.

I was able to fix my problem using the wire method for putting a bit of a pull on the heatsink (although it still misbehaves every now and then and I AMD goes, it depends on a couple factors. all others ok.I have found a MB and chip 3.2 P4 second hand/refurb(does that mean cleaned LOL) on ebay form a dismantler for £75 so I guess that's the next step, Nothing shows on the monitor.
