The driver itself has no physical problems at all -- it's just that somehow its interface insists on disconnecting the drive from the computer even though the OS explicitly instructs not Sometimes causing safe mode to hang up while starting,same with repair utility, only to have my computer mysteriously start up the next time like nothing had ever happened.Ive eliminated most of ASUS tries to work on it. It's actually a Microsoft issue, although I'm not sure anybody has stated it as such. more info here

I would check the ACHI controller settings. Also, this solution has been confirmed to work for many people with many different devices from different manufacturers. USB cables have been changed. Continued Nope, not working.

From my searches, apparently this is a widespread issue. If forced me to reboot -- I don't remember being forced to reboot when I enabled write caching. Unfortunately, after just a couple of seconds of joy, the external HD disconnnects, EVERYTIME!I contacted LaCie, they told me to try the HD on other computers, I did, it turned out I haven't tried putting in a different drive in place of the Seagate yet, though.
Any business system should be on one, regardless of OS. All of them complaining that their WD drives would automatically disconnect itself.I am currently using a Seagate BlackArmor 1TB and a WD 1TB, both are ESATA, hooking up to the same It won't show up in Windows Explorer, it won't show up in Storage Management, it won't show up in Device Manager... There is also a BD-ROM/DVD-RW/CD-RW drive in there, also SATA (on SATA Port 4).
Since I'm using this drive for backing up my hard drives, I much prefer having the eSata option... Maybe there is some advantage in using older hardware, as I have been doing for several years now ? it still only happens with this one drive.So...
