The first FULL Fudge Funky Friday to kick off the new season. The SJU is proud to present you with a double treat; not only do bowlegs make you move your feet in ways you never knew you could, when you’re all warmed up by this collective of super groovers, DJ’s Mama’s Funky flow will help you to keep movin’ and will do all they can to up the ante and help you work that dance floor even harder. Saturday June 26th, the third edition of the annual Utrecht Jazz Festival Jazz-A-Palooza will take place at various locations in Utrecht. Among others, I guess SpeakLOW is the band you will dig most if you are reading this, and of course Euro Cinema.

We have the honor to finish the festival with our Funky Fresh blend of old & new funk from far and near, smashed in your ears to make your feet move.

Tracin’ Tracy play what they call ‘urban jazz‘, a combination of acid jazz and hard bop from the sixties and seventies. The band is inspired by a variety of styles, including zhouk, ragga, jazz & punk. It sounds like it could be interesting, so check out their site(s)!

Tonight is May 7th: BCUC & Mama’s Funky Flow @ Fudge (SJU) but if you cannot attend, or want a little pre-party at home, here is the recording of our previous gig, one month ago. Don’t worry if you catch this anytime later, the mix will still be funky as hell, with:

First up at this Fudge Friday, nu-urban collective UnDeFiNeD promise to deafen your senses with hip-hop, reggae, dancehall, breakbeat and funk. Having received massive support from radio Brussels, it’s time they burn it up at the SJU. Afterwards, it is time to get down with the dirty raw funksters of Mama’s Funky Flow, serving you raw funk in their well known funky fresh style, blending old, new and future sounds.

This week Nemo got to do a solo bit, and play with his new serato gear all night long. All the while I was having a good time on and around the dance floor. That is, after my hands stopped itching. I can’t wait to team up again for the next gig on april 2nd! Anyway, Nemo spun a funky fresh set of high carbon, fully flavoured phat tunes, blended splendidly for a nonstop flow of hip shakin’ grooves. Check out the result below.

Oh and big up to the band that night, George played a versatile set of accessible & credible funky tunes with excellent party flavours.

Fiiiiinaaaallly we got to play the SJU again in the funky fresh new year of 2010. Needless to say, we were really eager to rock the decks and have you guys shake it all over the SJU. So, after a steady warm-up by the Skarabeez, we took to the tables and from the look of the dance floor delivered as promised. The SJU remained filled until four, apparently the crowd had a good time and so did we. Listen to the first 90 minutes of funk below.
